The Insurance Institute of Cheltenham & Gloucester
The first record of an Insurance Institute in the County was in 1934. In that year a committee was created and called “The Gloucester Centre of the Insurance Institute of Bristol.” The first Chairman of that Committee was Mr A H Adams.
This continued until 1950 when the Insurance Institute of Gloucester was born. The first President was Mr A J Simons FCII.
Meanwhile, in Cheltenham, a separate Institute was created the following year, 1951. Mr W G Barnes ACII had the honour of being the first President.
Both Institutes continued separately, although having close links, until April 2003 when, largely due to the declining Insurer Market in Cheltenham, the two Institutes merged to form The Insurance Institute of Cheltenham & Gloucester. The Institute, as it is today, continues to thrive, with support from both Cheltenham & Gloucester to both technical and social events.
